The aim of this course was to present an introduction to the use of operator spaces in the field of quantum information theory. Since this course was expected to last no more than 30 hours, in order to give a self-contained and deep enough introduction, I saw myself forced to select only one topic among many different possibilities. As a consequence of this, the course was focused on the connections between quantum nonlocality, a major topic in quantum information theory, and the theory of tensor norms of Banach/operator spaces. In particular, the course was devoted to explaining why the theory of operator spaces is very suitable to study violations of Bell inequalities. The course was thought to be self-contained. To this end, all basic concepts and results that are used (except for well known theorems, for which references are provided) are introduced in detail. At the same time, one of the main goals of the course was to explain some of the recent results in the field so that, at the end, the interested students were able to handle some of the current techniques in the topic. These notes faithfully follow the recent survey, written in a joint work with T. Vidick, However, in the present notes fewer topics than in the previous survey are considered, with the advantage that they are explained in complete detail. In Chapter 1 the basic concepts of quantum nonlocality …

Survey on nonlocal games and operator space theory

This review article is concerned with a recently uncovered connection between operator spaces, a noncommutative extension of Banach spaces, and quantum nonlocality, a striking phenomenon which underlies many of the applications of quantummechanics to information theory, cryptography and algorithms. Using the framework of nonlocal games, we relatemeasures of the nonlocality of quantummechanics t...

Structures on the Way from Classical to Quantum Spaces and Their Tensor Products

We study tensor products of two structures situated, in a sense, between normed spaces and (abstract) operator spaces. We call them Lambert and proto-Lambert spaces and pay more attention to the latter ones. The considered two tensor products lead to essentially different norms in the respective spaces. Moreover, the proto-Lambert tensor product is especially nice for spaces with the maximal pr...

Tensor norms and the classical communication complexity of nonlocal quantum measurement 1 2

Nonlocality is at the heart of quantum information processing. In this paper we investigate the minimum amount of classical communication required in order to simulate a nonlocal quantum measurement. We derive general upper bounds, which in turn translate to systematic classical simulations of quantum communication protocols. As a concrete application, we prove that any quantum communication pr...

Positive Cone in $p$-Operator Projective Tensor Product of Fig`a-Talamanca-Herz Algebras

In this paper we define an order structure on the $p$-operator projective tensor product of Herz algebras and we show that the canonical isometric isomorphism between $A_p(Gtimes H)$ and $A_p(G)widehat{otimes}^p A_p(H)$ is an order isomorphism for amenable groups $G$ and $H$.

On Kernel Theorems

A convenient technique for proving kernel theorems for (LF)spaces (countable inductive limits of Fréchet spaces)is developed. The proposed approach is based on introducing a suitable modification of the functor of the completed inductive topological tensor product. Using such modified tensor products makes it possible to prove kernel theorems without assuming the completeness of the considered ...
